The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications for its National Eligibility Test (NET) in arts and humanities subjects to be held on December 26 for determining the eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. Online application facilities are available up to October 25.
The UGC will conduct NET in 77 arts and humanities subjects, at 66 university centres across the country. Those who qualify the JRF examination are eligible to pursue research leading to Ph.D. One can apply either for JRF or lectureship or for both.
The test will be conducted in 77 subjects including economics, political science, philosophy, psychology, sociology, history, anthropology, commerce, education, social work, defence and strategic studies, home science, public administration, population studies, music, management, physical education, Arab culture and Islamic studies, Indian culture, labour welfare/ personal management/ industrial relations, human resource management, law, literary and information science, mass communication and journalism, performing arts – dance/ drama/ theatre, museology and conservation, archaeology, criminology, Sanskrit, women studies, visual arts including drawing and painting/ sculpture /graphics / applied arts/ history of art, geography.
Eligibility: Those who have secured at least 55 per cent marks in their Master's degree in the subject concerned and those who are appearing for their final year Master's degree examination can apply online. Upper age-limit for JRF is 28 years. There is no upper age-limit for lectureship.
The test will consist of three papers. Paper I will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate and designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness. Paper II will be consist of questions-based on the subjects selected by the candidate.
Paper III will consists of only descriptive questions from the subject concerned. The test syllabus will be available in the website www.ugc.ac.in.
Application fee is Rs.450 for general candidates, for OBC candidates Rs.225, for SC/ ST candidates Rs.110. Print out of online application in duplicate along with relevant documents should be sent to the Registrar of the University (UGC Test Centre) where the applicant has opted to appear for the test ,so as to reach the addressee on before November 1.
